A Very Merry Monaco Christmas

All sing together:

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me the keys to a shiny Bentley.

On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me two Birkin Bags and the keys to a shiny Bentley

On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me 3 silk scarves, 2 Birkin bags and the keys to a shiny Bentley

On the 4thday of Christmas my true love gave to me, 4 cashmere sweaters, 3 silk scarves, 2 Birkin bags and the keys to a shiny Bentley

On the 5thday of Christmas, my true love sent to me – 5 Diamond rings – 4 cashmere sweaters, 3 silk scarves, 2 Birkin bags and the keys to a shiny Bentley.

And so the song continues –

What does everyone hope for for Christmas?  I was asked this same question just the other day.

My guess is that the letters to Santa are going to be somewhat different this year and most of the gifts will be delivered  in a sleigh pulled by the newly appointed  reindeer  called “Amazon”   The Christmas songs of past are going to have to be rewritten!

Has Covid and months of confinement changed us and our opinions on what is important in our wants, needs and must haves? I have to admit that I put up my tree super early (way before Haloween) to help induce the spirit of good times and celebration in a year of hiding away behind masks and hand sanitizers.  Get those stockings out and hang them high is what I say.  Just last week I ventured out on a little pre-Christmas ‘window’ shop around Monaco One and The Metropole, loving the decorations and lights, despite the social distancing and lack of welcoming hugs and kissing of cheeks.

However, I will wait a little longer before I source the tins of quality Street, chocolate oranges, tangerines, nuts and mince pies to all be washed down with many warming glasses of sherry or snowballs made from Advocaat, brandy and lemonade!

No Christmas Markets this year, No gluhwein, no giant Ferris wheel, no suckling pig on the hog roast – I got told that I shouldn’t call it a spit roast? – I googled why!! (Oh dear me)! ,

Hopefully the ice rink will go ahead, not that I can skate but it’s fun to watch and admire people who think they can.

I guess we will embrace what we do have. Me, I’m asking for nothing more than a beautiful day with my kids, full of joy and merriment, Christmas movies, outrageous Christmas sweaters and a whole lot of love. A lot of love coming from the direction of the internet to and from family and friends who can’t travel and haven’t been able to for most of 2020.

So, looking on the positive side of 2020, if Covid has taught us anything it’s the following;

Time with loved ones, even if it’s virtual, is more precious than diamonds,

Kind words and caring thoughts will bring more happiness than any handbag.

We would much rather wrap ourselves with the hugs of family and friends than any silk scarf.

In short, this is not the year to get everything you want. This is the year to appreciate everything you have.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a fabulous 2021 – well it can only be better – from all us girls at Women on Top.
